Gunsmiths from the Hanseatic City

Otto Weiss completed his training as a gunsmith in Suhl in 1955, Gerhard Hartmann in Hamburg in 1959. Otto Weiss deepened his knowledge in Switzerland and England, Gerhard Hartmann went to work in Austria.

In 1963, the gunsmiths met in a renowned gun shop in Hamburg and joined forces in 1965 to produce individual hunting rifles.

The small workshop developed more and more into individual gun making. The first rifle made entirely by one hand was the Heeren block rifle in 1970.

At the end of the 70s, the company was determined to expand. A suitable piece of land was found in Hamburg, Rahlstedt, which offered sufficient space for workshop rooms as well as the construction of an underground 100-metre shooting range.

In 1980, Hartmann & Weiss became the first company in Germany after the war to produce the Mauser Magnum repeating system as well as the short system in its original technology. At the same time, the production of the Hagn block system was also included in the production. The increasing demand for our products required a larger workforce. So the team was increased to 6 gunsmiths. From the mid-80s onwards, the product range was continuously expanded. Production systems such as cross-barreled shotguns of various calibres, fixed barreled shotguns and double barreled shotguns were added.

Since 2007, we have also been manufacturing break-barrel rifles with sidelock ejectors.

It is our endeavour to satisfy our customers today, as it was 40 years ago, with the highest quality craftsmanship.
